The Making of Alien Documentary
In deep space, the crew of the commercial starship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The terror begins when the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien ship. An organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew, causing him to fall into a coma.
The Alien Legacy (1999), documentary about 1979 ALIEN
The Alien Legacy (1999) was a “free” bonus disc for purchasers of the 1999 Alien Legacy Box set (first DVD release of Alien movie series). The “free” bonus disc was acquired via a special mail-in coupon included with the Legacy box set.

ALIENS vs PREDATOR To Dress A Predator
As the sum of most old sayings go, it takes more than any one person to accomplish any task or feat–the same goes for any creature suit, even a Predator. Creature suits are not simple wardrobe where the performer can just pull it off a rack, slide it on, and call it done.
Many are skin-tight, often multi-layered, with props or gear that have to be attached by another person or several crew.
Watch ADI shop supervisor Yuri Everson and makeup artist Mike Fields prep actor Ian Whyte for his bloody closeups on AVPR, and see all the little things that have to be pulled on, screwed down, glued together, and zip-tied to get “The Wolf” ready for a hunt.
ALIENS vs PREDATOR Animatronic Shoulder Cannon Tests
AvP director Paul Anderson wanted big Predators and big Predator shoulder cannons. Here’s one of the first tests of the animatronic shoulder cannon mechanized by Lon Muckey and assisted by Samara Hagopian.
Sam was one of the few–maybe only–women animatronic builders. Unfortunately, Sam passed away not long ago. Sam worked on a few ADI projects, and had a solid rep in the field.
ALIENS vs PREDATOR Building the Predator Med Kit
Every good covert character has his bag of tricks. James Bond had his brief case, Batman had his utility belt, and the Wolf Pred had his Cleaner Case.
But as much as he tussled with Aliens he needed a Med Kit too, and all those tools needed to fit in a sleek and compact container. On top of it all, we had to make it animatronic! Here’s how we did it…
ALIENS vs PREDATOR Alien Queen On Set
The work doesn’t end when the Queen is built. Performance on set is everything and having a director who understands how to build from shot to shot is key. Here you can see the first tentative movements on set that were refined quickly to become an important part of the action.
And after a long day of getting stabbed by Sanaa Lathan, she was even able to send producer John Davis a slime-flavored birthday greeting!
ALIENS vs PREDATOR Creating The Queen
The Alien Queen is one of the most iconic creatures in science fiction, and for AVP, we were excited to create her once again. Built in four-and-a-half months, the full-size Queen featured 72 points of movement that could be programmed using motion control or puppeteered live.
Here you will see all the hard work that went into re-creating the royal bitch, right up to her first fleshed out test with our own Chris Ayers having to face her down (just to give her some scale). To his credit, he only flinched once–the real mess he made was out of frame.
ALIENS vs PREDATOR Wolf Predator On Set
Some rare, never-before-seen moments of Ian Whyte as the “Wolf” predator on the AVPR set (including his first finished reveal of the character to the film’s directors, Greg and Colin Strause).
ALIENS vs PREDATOR Predator Vs Pred-Alien Rooftop Fight
A common complaint–among many–of AVPR was that the film was so blasted dark that NONE of the creatures could be seen in any detail, especially the long-anticipated Pred-Alien. Wait no longer (mostly). While prepping for a portion of the “rooftop fight”, Alec Gillis recorded almost every square inch of the Pred-Alien with Tom Woodruff, Jr. inside the suit.
Keep in mind that the creature was never intended to be seen in the wide angles you’ll see in this footage; it was proportioned to look good from the waist up. Ironically, the footage here that best features the Pred-Alien was damaged from the cold Vancouver weather of this December night shoot, so the first few minutes have some skips and skates.
Just check out the breath from both Tom and Predator performer Ian Whyte if you doubt it–it was damn cold!
ALIENS vs PREDATOR Alien Slice And Dice BTS
Another rare glimpse of filming ADI’s effects work on ALIENS vs PREDATOR–this time focusing on the sliced-in-half alien head action “Scar” the Predator delivers. The sequence required Tom Woodruff, Jr. (alien) to be suspended and inverted above Ian Whyte (Scar) for a “stalking” shot, then stunt perfomer Rene Hajek stepped in for Tom when the subsequent action required the alien to fall to the floor. A simple enough Texas-switch with very few hang-ups…
ALIENS vs PREDATOR Alien Cable Rig Test
For most creature performers, it’s not just about whether if if the suit fits–it’s what you can do with it. Knowing what the suit is capable of withstanding AND what the performer is physically capable of accomplishing is an important process before it gets in front of a camera. On AVP, Tom Woodruff, Jr. was able to draw out a new level of movement for the dreaded xenomorphs utilizing a cable and harness rig that he rigorously practiced on in and out of the suit. Not to mention some good ole camera tricks.

Prometheus – Creation Featurette
Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
